It’s all right for mama

The Bangkok Post had a supplement yesterday with this cover photo. Being gay is okay - in particular if you look like he does.

Inside is an article about parents coming to terms with gay or lesbian offspring. Mothers take it better than fathers, we learn.

Maybe I should write a book called “So Your Son Is Gay?”

Kids come out early these days. In the 2006 Bangkok Pride event a farang kid who looked like 14 was parading with a large rainbow flag. I could not tell if it was a boy or a girl, which kind of proves the point.

Parents need to know that if a son cries instead of fighting it only means he is sensitive and probably an artistic type, which is a good thing.

They should be told that pink is a great colour for all seasons, that a boy never can wear too many accessories and that everyone uses makeup these days. Advice on ballet classes and knitting should be welcome, along with an introduction to ABBA and disco bunnies.

Drag shows, muscle marys, saunas, gender change operations and the ethics of paying for it or getting paid for it should be covered.

I should also open a Drama Queen hotline for the emergencies and inevitable crisis. Dial 1 for a broken fingernail, dial 2 if your boyfriend left you, dial 3 if he is sleeping with your buddy, dial 4 if you are sleeping with his buddy, dial 5 if you sleep with both.

The “Air Force Cousin” was here a few days ago. Yesterday he found his mother in their garden in Chalerm’s village in Lopburi province.
