Bangkok novel 144 - Duff is rusting

In the evening Duff went to Silom road. He sent a text message to Rober Miller:
- In Burger King. Pretty boys here. Where r u?
Robert replied:
- Dining in Sphinx. Pretty waiters here. See u in 5min if u still there.

- Hello Duffy boy, said Robert when he entered the fast food restaurant. He sat down.
- Good evening, said Duff.
- I don’t normally go to eateries like this one, said Robert.
- Burgers are better than their reputation, said Duff. - Can I get you something?
- Ice water, please. I refuse to touch the food.

Duff got a water bottle for Robert and a Whopper for himself.
- So, said Robert. - I hear you have been shopping today?
- Shopping? Not that I recall. What did I buy?
- Some small coloured pills, maybe?
- What? Who told you that?
- Oh it was just something I heard.
- That Swede! Can he never stop talking? I am hardly out the door before he tells the whole city!
- It is nothing to be shy about. I use them myself. And after I told Larson where to get them he has been eating pills like they were sweets. Did you get any?
- Yes. But it doesn’t work.
- Did you try already?
- I took one. It has no effect.
- When did you take it?
- One hour ago.
- And then what did you do?
- Am I supposed to do something?
- You have to do someting. You can’t just wait.
- It doesn’t work. I took one and I feel no difference.
- You expect to get horny?
- Isn’t that the whole point?
- Actually not.
- Come on. Why do people take it if they don’t get horny?
- It is a pill to keep it up. But it doesn’t make you auto-engage.
- Can you say that again in English please?
- You need stimulation. The effect will only be apparant once you are in the right mood and circumstances.
- Oh.
- But you are in Bangkok. There must be something here of interest?
- I am not sure if I like this place anymore.
- Really? I thought you just moved to Thailand for life.
- I guess I did.
- So why the long face?
- I am not getting anywhere. I am supposed to look for a job but I am too lazy. I live off the money from selling the apartment back home. I am bored. I don’t enjoy Bangkok like I used to. I am wondering if coming here was a mistake.

    Lovely story. Encore, encore…

When I visit on holiday, I like to rise early in the morning to take my camera for a walk. I always head for the less touristic areas and have yet to be bored. I find the day-to-day activities of another culture fascinating.
