Bangkok novel 2

143. Who needs Viagra?

Larson was up early and went to the reception to ask which room Khun O had.
- Thai boy? asked the reception lady.
- Yes. His name is O.
- O is Thai nickname. You know name?
- Real name? I thought that was his real name. He rented a room here last night.
- We no have Thai boy rent room.
- Are you sure?
- We only have farang stay here. And one Japanese. Mr. Akuro Hideyoshi. Is him?
- No, he is Thai. Maybe he checked out already?
- Computer say no Thai boy stay.
- That’s strange. Well, thank you anyway.

Larson went to the restaurant to have breakfast. Duff sat at a table, reading the sports pages in the Bangkok Post while drinking coffee. Larson joined him.
- Good morning Duffy, said Larson.
- Good morning Lara-san, said Duff. - So how did it go with the cutie last night?
- Excellent.
- Was he money or not?
- He was free, of course.
- No money?
- He didn’t ask for a single satang.
- And he was good?
- He was fantastic. I think about keeping him.
- Where is he now? Is he not joining you for breakfast?
- He had something to do out on the town.
- I see. So he is the genuine article, is he?
- Definitely.

A waiter came with Larson’s American breakfast, eggs sunny side up and toast.
- I was going to ask you about something, said Duff.
- Yes?
- I am just asking out of curiosity.
- Yes? What is it about?
- Those blue pills. Do you know anything about them?
- Blue pills? You mean Viagra?
- Yes.
- Why should I know anything about Viagra?
- Well, I just thought maybe you…
- Listen young man. Just because I am older than you doesn’t mean I need artificial measures.
- Sorry, I didn’t mean to imply…
- I never use pills. I go au naturel.
- Of course. I was just thinking…
- So you need Viagra, do you? At your age?
- Me? No. Not at all.
- Why do you ask then?
- I am curious about how it works. Can it give an extra edge to the experience?
- How would I know?
- Right. Never mind then. I was wondering where they sell them.
- In the hospitals and at certain pharmacists.
- You can walk right in and buy one? No prescription needed?
- If you go to the right place, yes.
- And where is that?
- You can get them in Patpong, in the smaller pharmacies. The bigger ones don’t sell them since it is illegal. But in the small shops you can buy them under the counter.
- You know a lot about this.
- It is just what I heard. But you should consider the yellow ones instead.
- Yellow pills? I always heard they were blue.
- Viagra is blue. But Viagra is out. Cialis is in.
- Cialis? Is that the same sort of pill?
- It does the same, but with smaller side effects. And it lasts longer. Up to 12 hours.
- Really? Have you tried it?
- No.
- I want to try it to see what it is like.
- You can do that. Go to the small pharmacy near Screw Boy in Patpong.
- How do I know if it is the real thing?
- Only buy in original sealed box. Don’t accept loose pills in a plastic bag.
- That makes sense. Thanks for the advice.
- No problem.
- And one more thing.
- Yes?
- Please don’t mention this to anyone, will you? People might misunderstand.
- Of course not. My lips are sealed!
- Thank you.
