Bangkok novel 2

171. Business is business
The owner sat down next to Larson and said:
- What is the problem?
- Dietmar! said Larson.
- Mr. Larson, said the German.
- You! What are you doing here?
- What are YOU doing here? Why do you want to speak to me?
- You…you… you are… said Larson.
- Yes? I own this bar.
- You own it? You mean you are the boss here?
- That’s right.
- This is your bar? Then maybe you can explain why Lek is here?
- Working.
- This is not work.
- Call it what you want.

On the other side of the bar the older farang had paid the bill. He was taking Lek upstairs. Larson only saw the back of them as they went past the stage and behind a curtain.

Larson turned to Dietmar and looked at him with poorly hidden disgust.
- I don’t know how you talked Lek into this but he is not staying.
- You want to take him off?
- Off? What do you mean?
- The off fee is 400 baht. Lek is available as soon as he is finished with his present customer.
- You are kidding, right? Lek is my boyfriend. He doesn’t work here. He is leaving. Walking out. Leaving! Quitting!
- Whatever. That will be 400 baht plus the drinks. And please make him return by 8pm tomorrow or it will be another off fee.

Larson was fuming. He threw a 1000 baht note on the table.
- There! Keep it!
- Thank you, said Dietmar.
