178. Duff tries again
- Sit down! said Bjorn.
- Too late! said Larson, laughing.
- Please put your clothes back on.
- Look! Tell me I still got the body!
- I am not going to look at you, you silly old goat.
- Look!
- No.
- I am not quitting until you see this!
- All right then. I am looking. Ah, not bad. You are well preserved.
- I still got the body. Right?
- Yes you got it. And you got too much wine. Sit down, will you?
- I am not sitting. I am dancing. Tralala!
- Stop that.
- Catch me if you can!
- This is crazy. Stop right now!
Larson did a round on the floor and ended up on his back in the sofa. He kept singing while doing arm movements in the air. But his energy left him and Larson went quiet, closing his eyes.
Bjorn waited a couple of minutes. Then he went over to Larson and put a blanket over him. Bjorn didn’t want his boyfriend to find Larson sleeping naked in the living room.

Duff went to Robert Miller’s hotel for a 3rd date with Noi. Duff was not one to give up without having tried. Duff really needed to get laid.
Noi was early and sat outside on the stairs.
- I waiting you, said Noi.
- I am on time.
- But I waiting.
Duff ignored this logic and took the boy inside. Robert Miller had promised to join them in the restaurant for the translation, or rather the interrogation, of Noi.
- Happy birthday, said Robert to Noi.
The boy shook his head.
- It is your birthday today, right? asked Duff.
Noi shook his head again. He said something in rapid Thai to Robert.
- He says his birthday was a long time ago, said Robert.
- But he said it was today?
- He had forgotten about that. Noi says Lek told him farangs love birthdays and that it would please you if he told you it was today.
- Lek? Is he behind this trickery?
- That’s what Noi says. But look at the bright side. It saved you a b-day present!
- I am not sure if I like this, said Duff. - But let that rest for the moment. So when is your birthday, Noi?
- Is one one, said Noi.
- One one? You mean the first of January?
- Yes, said Noi.
- But when where you born? asked Robert.
- He just told you that, said Duff.
- No, he said when his birthday was.
- That’s the same thing.
- Not in Thailand!
Robert made Noi explain in Thai and translated: Noi was born before Songkran in the year the neighbour’s house almost burned down. But the villagers had saved it at the last minute.
- How is that possible? asked Duff.
- Maybe they used water from the klong?
- I mean the birthday. Songkran is in April.
- Village families don’t always remember when a baby is born. When they go to the district office to get papers for the baby the officials just make up a day that sounds nice. Such as the first of the first.
- So Noi doesn’t know when he was born?
- No. But he knows when his birthday is.
From their place in the restaurant the three could see a tuk-tuk come up in front of the hotel. A Thai girl was in the back. She climbed out of it with difficulty as she was heavily pregnant.
- Oh dear, said Robert.
- Who is that? asked Duff.
- Lady baby so much, said Noi and grinned at his clever observation.
- I know her. This can only mean trouble, said Robert.
