182. Out at night
At 1 am Duff circled twice around the statue that stands at the entrance of Lumpini park.
Duff inspected the bushes nearby, and looked at the homeless people that slept on the lawn. He said no thanks to offers from people of various genders, and when he was sure nobody he knew was in the area he sat down on the stairs, watching traffic go by at the Rama 4 – Silom road intersection.
Ten minutes later another farang joined Duff.
- So you are here? said Peter.
- Of course, said Duff.
- Could not sleep?
- No. Same for you?
- Yes.
- And he is not even my boyfriend. Must be worse for you.
- Maybe.
The fountain in front of the statue was turned off to save electricity, but the water still reflected nicely the lights from the tall buildings along Silom road.
- I don’t know where he is or why we care, said Peter.
- What you should do, said Duff, - is to forget about Bia and go screw yourself silly in some bar.
- I wish I could do that, said Peter. – But somehow I feel responsible for him. As if he was a child.
- Bia is a child, said Duff. – They are all children. When do they grow up? Do they ever?
- We know that and still we want the young ones, said Peter.
- It is called thinking with our dicks.
- Tonight we are the abandoned husband club. We should go do something better than sitting here.
- I am hungry, said Duff.
The two farangs brushed aside a couple of over-the-hill moneyboys that came up to them and crossed Rama 4 to Silom road. At the Robinson corner they brushed off tuk-tuk drivers and touts, as well as a few more moneyboys. They walked past MacDonald’s, Starbucks and the S & P Restaurant.
- It can be busy at Burger King at this hour, said Duff.
- You are the sexpert, said Peter.
- I just happen to know that when the bars close the boys gather there hoping for some late business.
Duff and Peter stopped outside the fast food restaurant and looked in through the windows at the brightly lit interior. The restaurant was busy with Thais and farangs.
- Wait a minute, said Peter. – Who are those two over in the far corner?
- I don’t see them, said Duff.
- You only see the backs of them.
- Oh yes. I see them now. Darn!
- The nerve! said Peter.
- Shameless, said Duff.
- What should we do? Pretend we haven’t seen them or confront them?
- Confront, said Peter. – They are not getting away with this.
