203 - Pattaya by night
The bus arrived at the bus station in Pattaya after dark.
- I haven’t been to Sin City since I had an unfortunate encounter with a ladyboy on Beach Road, said Larson.
- Unfortunate for who? asked Duff.
- The ladyboy. I won the fight, even if I don’t want to hit girls. I am a gentleman.
- Beach road is dangerous, said Duff.
- Everywhere is dangerous if you are careless, said Peter.
- How do we get into town? asked Duff.
- We take the baht bus, said Larson.
The farangs entered a baht bus, guided by a bossy tout who packed in as many people as he could before the pickup truck left. A mix of Thais, other Asians and farangs endured the loud transport. The bus had no silencer. A couple of bargirls tried to make eye contact with Larson, but had no success.
A baht bus came in the other direction and Larson stared at it.
- I could swear that farang was Dietmar, said Larson.
- What? said Duff.
- Dietmar! said Larson.
- I thought the boy sitting there looked just like Noi, said Duff.
- I can’t hear you! said Larson.
- Noi! said Duff.
- Fishy! said Larson.
- We are almost there, said Duff.
- Speak louder! said Larson.
- Almost there! Walking Street!
Duff pushed the stop button and the three left the baht bus.
- What kind of hotel have you booked? asked Peter.
- I haven’t booked it. We just walk in. They are never full.
- I hope it is not too expensive, said Larson.
- 600 baht a night, said Duff.
- A bit pricey, said Larson.
- You can sleep on the beach for free, said Peter.
Larson considered this but shook his head. - I might get robbed and that would cost me more than the hotel.
Beach Paradise Hotel was near the entrance of Walking Street. A couple of dogs slept outside the open door.
- It is a dog class hotel, said Peter. - There are only two classes of hotel in Thailand. Those with dogs in the reception and those without. No dogs means more expensive.
- They have a pool, said Larson.
- Maybe they have boys, said Duff.
- If they don’t they will soon have some, said Larson.
- Shower and change, said Peter. - Then we meet in the reception in an hour. We shall conquer Pattaya.
