Boyfriend news

Nemo

Chalerm has moved the fishes from the big aquarium to the small aquarium, where the turtles used to live. The turtles are in exile in a plastic bowl in the kitchen.

This leaves the big aquarium empty. When I asked Chalerm what he was up to he said:
- I want Nemo.

Nemo? Chalerm wants a saltwater aquarium. I was going to tell him that saltwater is more difficult, more expensive and that unless he knows what he is doing it will become a mess. Most people stick to freshwater aquariums for a reason. The fishes may not be as bright and spectacular, but the tank is easier to run.

But I held back.

I leave Chalerm to it. He wants Nemo. Let him have Nemo.

Chalerm went to Petchabun for the belated 100 day ceremony for his grandmother. I was in Malaysia for a visa run.

Chalerm had said he would be in Petchabun for three days but only spent one night there. Such is the lure of village life now that he has become a Bangkok boy.

I sent 10,000 baht. Chalerm added 6,000 baht of his own money. This was money he had saved from his allowance, plus what he had made working in Farang D’s office.

The family spent about half of the money on something ornamental, I am not sure what it was. The also bought half a pig and ate it. They did not invite the neighbours, but kept it as a family affair.

Chalerm’s father, the oldest son of the late grandparents, was not there. He had asked Chalerm for travel money. When Chalerm didn’t give him any the father refused to attend.

I see the hand of my pet enemy, Chalerm’s stepmother, in this. She must be furious she isn’t getting any of my money. She can thank herself. Her manipulative ways make me stay as far away from her as possible. Instead Chalerm’s aunt has taken over the monthly assistance I used to give to granny and grandpa.

I see floating fish in your future.

There are books in Thai at Chatuchak on how to set up a salt water or reef/live rock system. Give him about 15,000B for some upgrades, a calcium reactor, protine skimmer, Eheim filter and metal halide/fluorescent fixture. Then about 500 a week for live food and new salt water mix and addatives.

At Chatuchak? Lots of cheap(er) Chinese imports and seconds are available.

    Just an equimpent upgrade.
I also did not add substrate, live rock and fish (latter) once established and seeded.

I also read recently that you should not use tap water for the salt mix, too much NH2 for marine fish. Us RO water, buy it or go to one of the RO machines all over Bangkok.

Poor ol’ Silom will be out some big baht in the next few months. When Burger King asks him “big size?” they better be talking bout someting other than his meal.
