Chalerm says

Chalerm asked me if I wanted to join him and some girls from his university for a trip to see the sunflowers north of Bangkok. They want to take the train. I said it would be boring for me being with a group who would chatter away in Thai.

Saturday is Loy Kratong. Every year Chalerm says he will not be around for the ceremony, which we are supposed to do with our partners. Every year he shows up at the last minute and we go down to the river, buy a float with candles and flowers, and send it out on the water.

Chalerm’s homework is to learn the countries of the world and their capitals. I said he could test it on me.

I expected an easy quiz. I pride myself of knowing that the capital of Albania is Tirana, and that Ulan Bator is the capital city of Mongolia. But Chalerm’s list included ALL the countries of the world.
- Azerbajan? asked Chalerm.
- How am I supposed to know that? Don’t you have a better country?
- Andorra?
- Andorra has a capital? It is just a dot on the map.
- Burkina Faso?
- Please.
- Toga?
- Next!
- Tadjikistan?
- Next!
- Comores?
- Why don’t you ask me what capital of Japan is?
- Japan is not on the list.

This is how they prepare Thais for jobs in the tourist industry. Learn by route 200 countries and their capitals. This makes them well prepared for the influx of tourists expected from such places as Chad and the Marshall Islands.

Chalerm’s school is much better than any school I went to. Thanks to his highly qualified teachers Chalerm has learned to speak Korean, Vietnamese, Japanese and Chinese, all in just a few hours.

Chalerm had to state which country in Europe was the most popular. Answer: France Reason: They have fashion shows.

The Education of a Mat Rent Boy. There is the title. Now, SF, write the book. Filled with subtle funnies, I assume. Looking forward to reading it.

Hi there, I hail from South Africa, I read your blog everyday without fail. I have been reading your blog since July this year. It seems so wonderful over there, with all those hot boi’s and all. I have always preferred Asian men to other locals, yet there are few gay ones over here. Anyway I just thought I’de leave a comment for a change.

    All my love; Jai
