i was going to suggest Ebay too but you were right about no history etc..

those orthodox jews look like what are roaming the streets off Melrose Ave CA around dusk on Saturday.. all heading to temple
quite and interesting sight to say the least as so many just walk... I guess you can't use power or something after sundown
I wouldn't know .. my name should indicate where my religious stance stands:)

I just had a experience with FedEx last week! I was waiting for some iomportant papers (bills and bill of lading) from a container who was shipped in Quingdao (China) to Germany. I need the papers very urgent to get the goods through the customs. When the papers not arrived I checked the trackin number in the internet! And surprise, surprise they was in Grenada in the caribean! Somebody mixed up GER (for Germany) and GRE (for Grenada)! It took me days to get the papers back to Germany! Thats about FedEx tracking! hehe

An Arab on a camel - I can only think of Bing Crosby and Bob Hope but Bobby was not in Holiday Inn.

I agree SF with your comments on film vs digital - I took my film camera to Penang at Songkran and people looked at me as my name was Freeze-Green.

I agree, and with digital you end up with fewer good shots, blacks not intense, colors too clean. But my Nikon is sitting at home, while I am here in BKK.

It could be nice to have SOME film camera, in particular to use with black and white film. If I could find a cheap banged-up Bronica GS or Pentax 67, for example.

Digital schmigital! :-P

I considered eBay. I see many auctions with my type of gear ends with no sale because sellers are unhappy with the bids.

I think buyers in Farangland would be skeptical to a chap in Bangkok who had no history or rating on eBay. Import taxes and shipping costs also complicate the issue for buyers. While import taxes are lower in the US than in Europe they can be unevenly applied by the individual customs officer. The New York buyers are used to dealing with all this.

The market for film gear is getting weaker and weaker. My cameras have no digital bodies available so there is little demand for the lenses. Digital backs support Hasselblad prices to a degree.

The camera shop Foto File in Bangkok won't touch film systems anymore.

A friend tried to give away an almost new Nikon F80 but Thais didn't want it. A dealer in the US offered 33 dollars for it! This was a $ 500 camera. In the good old days he could have sold it for $ 250.

New York City prices are low, yes. Hong Kong too.
