Friends reunited

I was out walking in the evening when a strangely familiar person said hello. It was a skinny boy who was dressed as a girl.

- Have we met before? I asked.
- I go with you, ok? said the ladyboy.
- I am sure I have seen you somewhere.
- 500 baht?

The ladyboy was eating a microwave pizza slice from 7-Eleven. An older ladyboy was standing nearby, watching us.

I struggled to remember where I knew this person from, but could not. I left.

20 seconds later the ladyboy came running.
- I remember you! she said, smiling brightly. - You stay Silom road. I go condo you. You take picture me. I miss you! I love you!
- Oh yes, I said. - But you were a boy then.
- I change, said the ladyboy.
- When was it?
- Three year ago.
- How old are you now?
- 18.

(S)he had been 18 last time we met too. But this is Thailand and Albert Einstein’s space-time concept doesn’t apply here. Later, when I looked up this person in this blog, I learned that we had met one year and three months earlier. This is too short for a Thai to get any older.

The story about our first meeting is here >>

My gaydar failed with this person. I had thought that he was a straight boy. Now he was a ladyboy with a clumsy and un-female appearance. He had turned into a butch.

I asked him what was inside the bra he wore. Silicone? He said the bra was fake. His lady’s dress was cheap and he wore plastic sandals. He wore makeup but his hairstyle had changed little since last year.

She wanted another photo session. Reluctantly I said yes, thinking it could be interesting to document him before and after he turned ladyboy.

She was exited about this. To my surprise she remembered which soi I lived in. And she still had my old phone number, she said.

I could not find the photos of him on the computer. Maybe I deleted them. The strange skin condition he had last year had ruined the photos, and that was before I looked at his grumpy face.

She went out on the balcony to smoke.

My neighbours complain if they find cigarette butts and I warn guests about this.
- Don’t throw the cigarette from the balcony, I said. - Take it back inside.
- I understand, she said.

She smoked, and then she threw the cigarette from the balcony.
- I told you not to do that, I said.
- But I put it out first, she said.

It was late. I wanted to sleep more than I wanted to take pictures. I half-heartedly had the ladyboy pose for some photos. She raided our empty fridge and ate my emergency ration of ham. I ignored her request for pizza delivery. And I said no, she could not sleep on the sofa.

She looked better as a female. The strange things on her skin had gone. I gave her some money and she declared again that she loved me. She hugged and kissed me. This was new. She had not done this last year.

My research subject left. I could not be bothered to walk her out of The Mansion. I longed for my bed.

The next day Chalerm called from Thonburi.

- Who is in The Mansion? he asked.
- I am here.
- Who else?
- The fish and two turtles.
- Nobody else?
- No.

Why did he think someone was in our apartment with me?

I figured the following had happened. First our gossipy security guard had told our gossipy maid about my visitor. Secondly the maid had been to our apartment, found the bedroom door closed because I slept late, and guessed that the visitor was still with me. Third, she had told Chalerm all this.

Chalerm met this (lady)boy last time. The two had chatted. Should I bring greetings?

Or maybe I should say nothing and play mysterious.
