Gay Boy Thailand Q & A

I would be interested to learn why you started a blog. Maybe other readers would like to know, too.

I like to write. I took part in Internet discussion forums for many years.

I started a gay Thailand blog mainly to practice my fiction-style writing. I have a long term goal of getting a novel published. I found it hard to write alone and figured that if I put it on the Internet someone might read it and give comments. Writing for an audience with daily instalments would help my motivation, I thought. It worked. Then I added some selected Asian boy photos and Gay Boy Thailand dot com became what you see here.

You spill your very intimate thoughts into the blog, evidently. What is that experience like?

I am not telling you everything, but what I tell you is true. It can be strange to meet people who have read my blog and therefore know things about me that I haven’t told them. I say “And last week this funny thing happened… “ and they say “I know. I read about it in your blog”.

What limits have you established for yourself?

You will not get my sex life. I am too shy. And even if Google had allowed it you would not get any p*rn* in the blog. I don’t mind p*rn* if someone else makes it but it isn’t my style to get involved with it.

You have I supposed used a false name for your boyfriend, and I see no obvious pictures of him either. Any other limits?

I use false names for everyone I write about in the blog, both Thais and foreigners. But I am not hiding. Friends know about my blog. Some know because I told them, others know because they found the blog accidentally and read it, recognising details from my life. So I am not anonymous. I am just keeping a low profile, which is not the same thing.

And also please what reactions have you had from readers? Sometimes readers can be very nasty. Gaybutton had a very bad experience, I remember.

Stickman (stickmanbangkok.com) was also harassed on the Internet. It can happen. But my reactions are 99.99% positive. I have only received two hate emails. One was one line only, the other more elaborate and full of venom. But two is not much. I had expected more.

The style and tone of the blog will influence the style and tone of the comments I get from readers. I want this site to be light-hearted and entertaining, and most readers go along with that.

The comment box is still open 24 hours to anyone. Only rarely do I delete something as too negative. Sometimes I edit the language (sex talk) to avoid getting on the Google blacklist again - they hit me in January over the p*rno b*ys story.

Some readers have asked to meet me (and my boyfriend) but I have said no. It is tempting and flattering but I want to maintain that low profile. I life a quiet life. I don’t want to walk down soi 4 and hear “Hey, there is that Silom Farang guy!”.

Speaking of novels, we haven’t seen any chapters of your book lately. Taking a sabbatical?

  2. Silom Farang Says:

    Yes.

Isn’t it a flagrant contradiction that you intend to practice your fiction-style writingand claim at the very same time that I am not telling you everything, but what I tell you is true!? ;-)

  4. Silom Farang Says:

The novel is made up. The diary is true. Both are written in the style of fiction (storytelling). ;)

Cool. I discovered this blog a few weeks ago, can’t remember how, but I quickly read all the archived diary posts, fascinating stuff! Great insights into Thai culture and lots of extremely cute boys - you have great taste, I must say - what more could you want? :D

There is one burning question I feel you have failed to address, though - how do you manage to make every single blog entry at precisely 10.32 AM? ;)

  7. Silom Farang Says:

Thank you for your kind words :D

10.32 AM? That’s a bug in the software. It makes it look like I post everything at 10.32 AM. Usually I post before 10.00 in the morning.

  9. Silom Farang Says:

Drongo: the advertising pays for it.
