Gay Jakarta?

jakarta.jpg
Jakarta by night

I was pondering if to book a visa run to Jakarta, Indonesia and looked up travel advice:

There have been cases where someone hides on the trunk (or boot), and comes out to attack the passenger after the taxi is moving. By sitting in the back seat, you can watch the seat next to you. If it begins to open, quickly slam it back shut, and scream at the driver and get out of the taxi as quickly as possible.

And:

Sit on the left side of the back seat … not behind the driver. There have been cases where the driver pushed his seat back and trapped people sitting right behind him.

Jakarta taxies sound a bit more advanced that what I am used to in Bangkok. Is Jakarta worth it? Is there any gay life or other things to see?

When I visited Jakarta about 10 years ago my impression was: “Los Angeles superimposed on Bangladesh.”

Their (taxi) target are women not men, so dont worry. My suggest is go to Bali, more secure, people are friendly, most gay scenes.
Welcome to Indonesia. Welcome to Bali

It’s a NO BRAINER sf! Go to Penang and be sure to have some fun! Those cops there are HOT HOT HOT!
The noose is also slowly tightening in Thailand, but you are too young to see the rope already around your neck. Have fun! Lulu ________________________________________
Malaysian police arrest 37 at gay sex party

    Tuesday November 6, 2007
    Guardian Unlimited
Police in Malaysia, where sodomy is a crime, have raided a gay sex party and arrested 37 men, including a Briton.
Police chief Azam Abdul Hamid said officers acting on a public tip-off had raided a fitness centre in northern Penang island on Sunday while a sex party was in progress. The men arrested were aged between 20 and 45.
Apart from the Briton and a Chinese national, all the men were ethnic Chinese Malaysians, including three who worked at the centre, he said.
Police found used condoms, seven tubes of lubrication jelly, 20 gay magazines, four pornographic videos and six boxes of new condoms.
“Based on our information, the centre was regularly used for these gay activities,” Mr Hamid told the Associated Press. “This is against our culture, our way of life.”
The operator of the premises could lose his business licence, while the men - who have now been released - could be charged with committing “unnatural sex acts”.
Homosexuality is not specified as a crime in Malaysia, but there is a law prohibiting sodomy, which is punishable by up to 20 years in prison and whipping.
Mr Hamid said police were also carrying out surveillance at other centres suspected of allowing gay sex under an ongoing operation to check vice activities in Penang island.

Why worry too much about Jakarta cab and crime living, everywhere in the world has ‘petty crime’ and for sure Indonesian would not harm any tourist.

I still suggest you visit Bali, where the living is much more simple, and the gay life is open.

Make up your schedule, gladly to welcome you here

  7. Silom Farang Says:

Lulu: Penang police had a similar raid in Komtar a few months ago. That was a massage or sauna place for gentlement.

But do they bust into your hotel room or apartment if you are entertaining a friend? Or is it only commercial establishments they bust?

[”Mr Hamid told the Associated Press. “This is against our culture, our way of life.”]
He of course means his own way of life, or his group’s way of life.
It’s an unfortunate human traite that if someone is ‘different’ or likes something ‘different’ then they / it must be banned even if it is no more harmful than their own preference.
How sad we humans are that we cannot live and let live.
