It was 11am when Dandy Duff woke in room 502 at the Malaysia Hotel. Next to him in bed was a Thai boy. The boy was quite good looking but Duff had his standards and in the dim light at DJ Station disco he had thought the boy was cuter. Duff poked the boy in the ribs.
- Good morning, said Duff.
- Mmm, said the boy.
- Time to get up!
- Nuai, said the boy and rolled over so his back was turned against Duff. The boy pulled a pillow over his head.

Waking a sleeping Thai boy was not easy. Duff pulled the heavy blue curtains and let the hazy Bangkok sunlight in. This wasn’t enough.
Duff shook the boy by the shoulders.
- Alei? said the boy.
- Time to get up. Up and away. Bye bye to you!

The boy got slowly out of bed and went unsteadily, as if drunk, to the bathroom. Duff turned on the television. MTV had a boy band special going. It was great stuff. Free soft porn.

The boy came out of the shower with a white towel tied tightly around him. It started at the navel and went down to just above the knees. Duff could never figure out how Thai boys got the towel so neatly in place. If Duff tried it the towel fell down to his ankles.

The Thai boy dressed out of sight, behind the corner where the bathroom door was. But Duff got a glimpse. The butt was nice. Sexy and firm. They all had lovely bodies. The problem was the face and the attitude. This boy was not as sweet and complacent as Duff liked them.

The boy was dressed and ready but he didn’t leave. At first he stood there as if waiting for something, then he came over to the bed where Duff was laying on his back, supported by pillows. The boy sat down on the edge of the bed.
- I will call you, said Duff. But I need to sleep now.
The boy waited.
Duff ignored him and watched the pop star boys dancing in wet t-shirts on TV instead. Who cared if they could sing or not when they looked as gorgeous as this?

- I hungry, said the boy. No have money eat.
- Hungry? You better go then, said Duff. There is no food here.
- What you give me? said the boy.
- I gave you a kiss.
- I go with you. I good boy you.
- Yes. Thank you. I hope it was good for you too.
- Why you not care me?
- I care. You are a nice boy.
- I no money.
- The bus is only five baht.
The Thai boy looked at Duff with despair.
- I go with you. You pay money me.
- Why should I pay you?
- You sek me.
- You had sex with me too. Why don’t you pay me instead? said Duff and held his hand out as if begging.
The boy didn’t understand the sarcasm. It was obvious to him that farangs paid Thai boys, never the other way. The farang was talking crazy.
- Family me poor, said the boy. No have money. You lich. You give money me.
- I don’t have time for this, said Duff. You didn’t say you were a moneyboy.
The boy’s eyes flickered for a moment at the mention of the word “moneyboy”.
- You not good heart, said the boy. Why you not care me?
- You never said you wanted to be paid. If you had said that I would not have brought you here. You came to sleep with me. No talk of money. Are you a go-go boy?
- No, said the boy. I go school Laksi.
- So why do you want money?
- I no have, said the boy. One thousand baht. You give me.
- Sorry.
- Five hundred baht?
- I am not giving you anything.
- Four hundred baht?
- I don’t pay for sex, ok? You said I was handsome. You said you liked me. You might as well pay me.
- Three hundred baht?

Duff was annoyed. He had worked hard to flirt with the boy at DJ Station. Duff was sure the boy had come to his room out of lust and attraction. Now the kid had the nerve to present a bill. Duff opened the door to the corridor. He took the boy’s old sneaker shoes and put them outside. Then he pointed to the open door.

The boy was disappointed but left. In the corridor the boy turned and said “fuck you!” to Duff. The boy said it with feeling but he spoke quietly as the cleaning ladies were standing by the lift, watching.
Duff waved him off.
- Have a nice day you too, said Duff.

One minute later the phone by Duff’s bed rang.
- Mister Daddy? said the female voice.
- Mister Dandy, said Duff. Speaking.
- This is reception. Thai man come now from your room. Is OK?
- Yes, everything is OK.
- Thank you Mister Daddy.

Dandy Duff wished the hotel staff would stop calling him “Mister Daddy”. It was not a snide comment about his age, just a mispronunciation of his name. Duff liked it better when Thai boys called him DD. Dee dee meant “good good” in Thai.

The phone rang again.
- Good morning, said a man speaking in a Swedish accent.
- Good morning Bjorn.
- Grand assembly at the Dusit Thani, downstairs buffet lunch, at noon.
- That’s in only half an hour.
- And you are only five minutes away.

Shower and shave. Duff arrived at the Dusit Thani ten minutes after noon. The rest of the lunch club was already there: Bjorn the Swede, Robert the American, and Peter the Australian.

- You look tired, said Bjorn.
- I had a boy from DJ, said Duff.
- Was he good? said Robert
- He didn’t do anything. But what he didn’t do was quite good, if you get my drift.
- Duff is speaking in riddles again, said Peter.
- Dandy is a typical Englishman, said Robert. I never understand what the English say.
- The boy was lazy, said Duff. All he did was to roll over and let me do the work. He even kept watching television while we did it. Thai comedy.
- It takes experience to remain that calm, said Bjorn. If it had been his first time he would be up under the ceiling, screaming.
- So it wasn’t his first time, said Duff.
- They should have meters on their butts giving the mileage, said Robert.
- Would you like to have your mileage on display? said Duff.
- Me? I am practically a virgin, said Robert.
- Robert is a virgin and he has a thousand Thai boys to testify it is true, said Bjorn.
- The little bitch demanded money before he left this morning, said Duff. It ruined the whole thing. Until then it had been a good experience.
- How much? said Bjorn.
- A thousand baht.
- Not unreasonable for all night, said Robert.
- I thought he was for real, said Duff.
- How old was he? said Bjorn.
- How old? I don’t know. I forgot to ask. Old enough and about right.
- Do you even know his name? said Peter.
- Of course. It was Chai. Somchai? Thanachai? Something like that.
- Thanachai must have been the love of your life, said Peter. Surely you could have given him a tip?
- I hate it when they trick me like that. The whole point about DJ Station is that it isn’t a go-go bar, right? You can meet ordinary Thai boys there. Students. Guys with normal jobs. That’s what I want. A real Thai boy.
