Only when Larson came out on the street in the heat and the sunlight did he realise how close he had come to getting locked up. He imagined himself in an overcrowded stinking cell. If Thai prisons were anything like the 3rd. world prisons Larson had seen on television it must be unbearable. Larson felt dizzy. He made a misstep and almost fell on the pavement.
- Is something wrong? asked Bjorn.
- I am fine, said Larson.
- You don’t look well.
- I am a bit shaken, said Larson. What a day! This got out of hand. I guess I should thank you for helping me.
- Never mind, said Bjorn.
- I owe you big, said Larson. I don’t know what I was thinking. You were right. Pay and get out is the only sensible way in a country like this.
- You don’t owe me big, said Bjorn. But you do owe me two thousand baht.

Two days later Thai army general Than (retired) was visiting his sister the Khunying. In the huge luxurious house in Bang Kapi his brother-in-law gave Than an envelope. The bother-in-law was satisfied and smug as he watched Than opening the envelope. Inside was a photograph. All three leaned over to get a closer look at it. The picture showed five police officers with serious faces. In front of the officers was to the right a cocky police boss. To the left was a scared Thai boy. And in the centre was a confused farang who had forgotten to close his zipper.
