29. In soi 2

Bjorn had promised Larson to take him to DJ Station. The two Swedes walked along the night market that separated soi 4 from soi 2. They ignored the touts and said no thanks to the porno boys. Bjorn had seen them many times before and thought they were annoying. Larson found them cute and smiled at them. This only encouraged them. The boys grabbed Larson’s arm and tried to make him come to their underground porno shop.

DJ Station had 45 minutes left till closing time and the spirit was high. The disco was packed with boys and men who struggled to move around or to keep a spot on the dance floor. The disc jockey pumped out fake smoke illuminated in all sorts of colours. He turned the music up even higher. On the stage some of the boys were dancing shirtless. More boys joined them and showed off their bodies under the flashing lights.

Outside DJ Station Bjorn and Larson saw a forlorn Duff sitting on a bench. Duff stared at Larson’s new clothes and hairdo but said nothing. Duff had his mind on other things. Bjorn sat down next to him. Larson remained standing, impatient to get to the disco.
- What’s up Duff? asked Bjorn.
- I have this boy who refuses to come back to the hotel with me, said Duff.
- Why doesn’t he want to come? asked Bjorn.
- Ahem! said Larson, nodding towards the entrance.
- You go in. I will join you later, said Bjorn.
Larson went to buy a ticket.

Duff shrugged.
- The boy says the Malaysia has a bad reputation, said Duff. If people see him there they might think he is a prostitute.
- Is he in the closet?
- I don’t know. Five minutes ago he and I were kissing in DJ in full view of everyone. He could do that but he can’t go to a hotel that isn’t even officially gay. Where is the logic?
- You expect logic from a Thai boy?
- Is common sense too much to ask for? The boy said it was better if I stayed at the Dusit Thani! Does he think I can afford that?
- Do you like this boy? Is he money?
- I don’t think he is money. Yes I like him. He is super cute. But what good is that if he doesn’t want to come with me?
- Don’t give up on him, said Bjorn. Get his phone number. Maybe he will change his mind later.

Bjorn left Duff to ponder the strange ways of Thai boys and went to DJ Station. The place was so crowded that Bjorn had to start to squeeze and push as soon as he was inside. Bjorn fought his way to the bar, hoping he didn’t step on too many Thai toes along the way.

Where was Larson? Bjorn could not see him in the mass of people on the dance floor. Maybe he had gone upstairs. Bjorn started the difficult path to the stairs. Walking inside DJ was like wading in deep snow. Each step was an effort and progress was slow. Bjorn was halfway to the stairs when he realised where Larson was. My gawd! What is he DOING? This is beyond embarrassing, thought Bjorn. Bjorn wanted to pretend he didn’t know Larson and leave.
