Novel 55. Temptation

Peter Hart was determined not to give in to Bia’s trickery. The boy thought he could charm and manipulate his way back. This was easy to see through. But, thought Peter, Bia was his x-boyfriend and both of them should behave civilly. Peter was not one to cut off an X completely; he believed one should maintain friendly relations after a break-up.

This was why Peter, the next time Bia came and rang the doorbell, invited Bia in.
- You can only stay for five minutes, said Peter.
- Too quick, said Bia. Where you go?
- I am not going anywhere, said Peter. But I don’t want you to stay. You can come in for a short visit. You can tell me how you are doing and then you can go back to your room. Ok?
- I stay alone too much. I miss you. Not happy. I cry every day.
- Really, said Peter. I am sorry to hear that.

Peter and Bia were still standing, they had not moved from the spot right inside the door. Peter was looking at Bia. The boy was dressed in those tight jeans again. The pants were body enhancing. Peter liked visual stimuli such as this. Another stimuli was Bia’s shirt, which only had one button open but which still showed a piece of Bia’s warm, light brown and sensual skin. Peter looked at Bia’s black hair. Thai boys had great hair, rich and shiny. Bia’s hair looked good and it smelled good. Peter was was tempted to lean over and sniff it.

- Sit down for a moment, said Peter.
Bia sat down.
- You forgot this, said Peter and showed Bia a Buddhist amulet that Bia had left in a drawer.
Peter handed the amulet to Bia across the table. Amulets were precious things; one could not throw them about. Peter and Bia’s hands touched for a moment. The brief body contact had an effect on Peter. Bia was pleasant to touch. There was something about Bia that invited touching. This is interesting, thought Peter. Someone should do research into why Thai boys seemed to cry out “touch me”. They gave off some subliminal message that said gentlemen callers such as Peter were welcome.

- How is school? asked Peter.
- So so, said Bia.
- What do you do these days?
- Not do.
- You have classes?
- Have.
- Are you seeing your friends? Are you going out?
- Not go out. Friend no have. I stay alone.
- You need to get out a bit. It’s not healthy to sit indoors all day staring at the wall.

Bia didn’t answer. He looked out the window at a rain cloud that was forming in the sky. Peter got up to signal that the visit was over. Bia rose too, holding his amulet.
- I guess it’s goodbye then, said Peter.
- Yes, said Bia. If you not wan me.

Peter opened the door for Bia. Somehow the boy was nearer him now. Peter had tried to maintain a distance, some space between him and his X.
- Hug? asked Bia.
That can’t hurt, thought Peter. A hug is just a hug.

Peter hugged Bia, who put his arms around Peter. Peter was much taller than Bia and had to lower his head for a brief cheek-to-cheek contact. A proper hug should include cheeks, thought Peter. To maintain balance when doing this Peter had to move his hands down Bia’s back, almost to his butt. This was for technical reasons and should not be misinterpreted as fondling. Peter had to pay attention to where his centre of gravity was or else he would stumble.

The hug lasted. Bia didn’t want to let go. Peter made a half-hearted attempt at getting loose. All right, thought Peter, I will hug him a bit tighter so he gets satisfied and can leave. But when Peter pulled back for the second time Bia looked into Peter’s eyes and kissed him. Darn, thought Peter.
