6. Taking Arm off

In Larson’s mind two sides debated what to do with the sexy boy by the name of Arm, who was now holding Larson’s hand and patting his belly. One side was slutty and one side was moralistic. Larson’s inner argument went like this:

- I can’t believe it! You are hardly off the plane from Stockholm and here you are, in a Bangkok go-go bar, getting ready to sexually exploit a poor farmer boy 36 years your junior. You lust after his body and now you are going to force yourself on him.
- Nobody is forcing anyone. And its just sex. The boy wants it. He will be disappointed if I don’t take him back to my hotel.
- The boy doesn’t want you. He is in it for the money. He is broke and desperate to help his family.
- I will be nice to him. If I don’t take him maybe he will end up with some freak. At least I am not a dangerous person.
- You are selfish. Admit it! What do you care about his life? You only want this young man to satisfy your desires.
- I didn’t create Thailand or the Thai sex industry. It is not my fault if his family is poor. This is how things are. I can take him off and do what men have always done. Or I can be an uptight Scandinavian who thinks he can change the world. But I can’t. What difference does it make if I refuse him on moral grounds? Does it make him any happier? These are the rules; I get lovely boy. Lovely boy gets my money.
- He would never look twice at you if you didn’t pay him. You will be ashamed of yourself in the morning. Will you tell anyone back in Sweden what you have done? Will you tell your mother? The sex industry ruins people. You know what.
- Don’t be hysterical. I am not ruining anyone. I need to get laid. It is years since last time. This is my chance. It’s just sex. Maybe he will like it.
- You would not like to do his job, dancing on a stage in your underwear and sleeping with dirty old men.
- True. I would not like to do his job. But who said the world is fair? Everyone is trying to make the best out of their lot in life. I have the money he wants. He has the youth and the looks I want. It’s a match.
- You will join the ranks of common sex tourists. There goes your moral superiority.
- What has moral superiority done for me? If take this boy I will get laid at long last.

Helped by Bjorn’s encouragement and Larson’s built up needs the dirty side won. The boy was happy to go and bounced across the floor in the bar while other go-go boys were envious. They all wanted to be taken off.

Arm came back fully dressed. He wore baggy blue jeans with a wide white belt with fake metal knobs on, and a black T-shirt saying “Same same but different” in red letters. Arm took Larson’s hand and they walked through Soi Twilight back to Suriwong road. The touts left them alone when they saw Larson was taken. Bjorn hailed a taxi to go home and Larson found another taxi to take the boy to the Malaysia hotel.
