Sin City
Another unknown number called collect to my mobile phone and the computer voice asked me if I accepted. I rejected it.
I received several more calls of the same kind. I noted the number and called back manually. I don’t know what the rate for this collect call thing is. They are not telling me.
It was not Number One the barboy on the phone. It was a friend.
- Number One have ploblem room, said his friend without further introduction. – Him must pay money. Him wan you give money 2 000 baht, OK?
- No, I said.
- Hae?
- No.
- Aleina?
- No.
The caller regained his balance and said:
- Tomollow Number One go Pattaya. We stay XYZ Apartment. Him call to you. OK?
- Sure.

Is this story true or fiction? Sounds like too much of an atittude, even for a Thai boy

I post the true stories in the “Diary”. The made-up stuff is in the novel.

I just thought of something… It was strange that Number One didn’t call himself, as he alwayd did before. The friend said “Number One sick little bit”.
Is this friend someone else in need of money? Did Number One pass my number on to his buddy for his benefit? “Here is the phone number to the walking ATM by Silom road”.

Are they really that blatant?

Sounds like Number One’s found that life in the big city is not all it’s cracked up to be. Perhaps it’s back to the seaside to peddle his one remaining asset.

I can’t remember anyone as blatant as Number One. Usually they at least insert a “I miss you” before asking for money.

Hi Silom, I miss you!
Okay, send my 1000 baht to my account in Switzerland, thank you.

Not bad Samart. But try to say it again with more feeling.

Oh dear. I see you have comments from another ANDREW. I trust we won’t be mistaken for each other: my posts are correctly punctuated, have proper grammer, and are, I trust, (com)passionate.
I also never send short messages for, after all, the keyboard is all I can get my hands on at the moment, unlike some people I can think of.
Now, would Silom Farang like some of us to contribute to the welfare of Number One? I would be more than pleased to so do. All I ask in return is his eternal love.
