Today my glamorous life in Bangkok included a trip to Burger Queen on Silom road. It was hot in there, hotter than on the street. The place has gone from filled with smoke to being without air condition.
Never mind. I had a Double Whopper and the bacon was crisp.
I saw a cute Thai boy in a tight white singlet outside Watson’s. He returned my look but his cool distant attitude made me think he was a professional. He might be one of the massage boys. Those guys know what they are worth.
Last night Chalerm was up till 5am. He changed the water in the saltwater aquarium. So far there are no casualties. A man from the soi was here yesterday and Chalerm suddenly got busy to clean the tank. I overheard the Thai man saying something about the fish dying - presumably if Chalerm didn’t change the water soon.
I woke up in the middle of the night while the aquarium thing was going on. I went to the 7-Eleven to get some food and bought salt for Chalerm to put in the fish tank. The boy who sold me the salt in the 7-Eleven is an old friend of us. He used to be the boyfriend of a farang. The farang went home to Farangland but the boy is still here.
I gave Chalerm money for school fees this semester, books, field trips and other expenses. When everything was added up it came to 15,000 baht.
They say lack of children is one of things gay men miss, but now I feel like a parent. I certainly get to fork out school money like a father. I also feel a parental pride that Chalerm is graduating this year. I don’t know what is stronger, my pride when he has made it or my relief that I can stop paying for his university.
In the morning I corrected Chalerm’s homework. It was a questionnaire Chalerm would use to interview tourists. Chalerm had found it on the Internet but it was still full of bad English.
All is well in the Big Durian.

7-11 salt, table salt? You need sea salt. The best is Red Sea Salt Mix. One vendor in Chatchuk sells it, big sign “Red Sea” near the JJ mart building. That’s what the Paragon Aquarum uses.

Look trongpai… SF eats at Burger King. His fish must be just like him and will never know one salt from another.
By the way SF, the latest research says that children and monogamy bring no happiness that is not accessible to those who are childless and without fixed sex partners or spouses. In fact, the exact reverse may be true, the free spirit may have it all!

Well, no spirit is free-er than SF….
Now he is looking for a smaller apartment in BKK so that his spirit can roam free-er for longer periods of time…
I guess if being a free spirit in benefitial to your happiness then SF needs to thank the Thai government , and their ever changing visa regulations, for improvinig his health!
