Over the top
In the category “annoying overspending by rich people” we have a new entry in the New York Times. It is a farang who has spent millions of dollars building a villa in Phuket.
Jealous? Moi? Not at all. Let him keep it. I bet it is boring out there.

I really don’t know how this guy can manage in such a meagre space. Where does he park his helicopter and private jet?

‘There were dozens of things, hundreds, that went on along the way where I pointed something out that was definitely a flaw and I was the guy who found it, discovered it, and then it got corrected.’
What, in all cases? No farang can win against a slothful Thai builder, even farang with difficult ‘type-A’ personalities like his.

Someone will probably build a 12 storey block between him and the view.

Envy is such an ugly thing.

If it’s boring, he can fly in a plane load of sweet young things from Bangkok, and have them splash around in the pool. In the nude of course.

Either the wife smothers him with a pillow or it is discovered that they made an error and the property was built on Forest Land. Either way, Bye-Bye Farang. Smiles all around. Foreigners cannot own land in Thailand. No matter what anyone tries to convince you.

And he proably pays his MB’s 1000 baht

I thought Farangs couldn’t own property in Thailand…maybe they make an exception for the grotesquely rich?

Come on. We all know that anything is for sale…even the land this guy built his house on. But since everything is for sale, so is the hitman that might be hired to remove him as the owner of the house and land.

Actually, as I recall, there is an exception for the “somewhat rich.” Isn’t there? If you’re going to invest at least X million baht in Thailand, you get the right to own one (1) home. There’s a similar thing in the US, where visas are “automatically” granted to businessmen who are bringing in a million bucks, or something.

Whoops, that’s wrong. I think that special deal about owning a house belonged to the good old days, when the Thai were trying to encourage people to set up software firms. That seems to have gone with the wind.
The standard “investor visa” just gives you the right to buy a condo (wow) WITHOUT transferring the money in from abroad.

if i could afford it it would be my luck a tsunami would take it out the day the last nail was driven

It’s a very beautiful villa. Nice place to just get way from it all and relax.
