Glad you made it safely back to Bangkok. I just looked at the photos from Sandakan and in the 2nd photo that is clearly a swastika, does that symbol have some other significance in Malaysia? It was a little startling to see it in such a peaceful setting.

It is an ancient oriental symbol for good luck, later given a bad name in the Europe by Adolf Hitler, who borrowed it.

Symbols have meanings only because humans give them meanings. In an of themselves, symbols can have no meaning or many meanings.
And for tomorrow, class, read pages…..
Perhaps we will get to see more pictures by then. Pictures with boy symbols would be nice.

It’s not a swastika. Look carefully- it’s the swastika reversed, and is a Buddhist symbol, indicating peaceful co-existence. You will see it all over Malaysia in Buddhist temples. I’m told the Nazis COPIED it (!!), so revering it is apposite!
