Fly our friendly skies
Only in Thailand can people go to bed thinking the capital has one international airport plus a domestic one (to be reopened in haste), then to wake up and find there are two international airports.
Conspiracy theory: How could authorities build a new expensive airport knowing that it would be full from the moment they opened it? Are they THAT incompetent? No, it is because they had planned to reopen the old airport all along. Rumour has it that Don Muang is controlled by the air force guys while Suvanaphumi is controlled by the army. Both brances of the military want their own cash cow. Will we get a navy airport too?

Ta ta ta! It is 3am Thursday morning and Bangkok has a new bug-eyed airport. At this hour Suvarnabhumi officially takes over for Don Muang. Suvarnabhumi is pronounced Su-wan-na-poom. The “i” at the end is silent. Got it?
