Whenever I feel Thailand is a crazy place it helps to read about the Philippines. I looked up the Angeles City ex-pat website harrythehorse.com, which lists one murder, violent attack, scam and blackmail after the other. But don’t worry, says the site, Angeles City is safe. I had received a Double Whopper at Burger King Silom and was on my way over to the table nearest the door when a middle aged Arab man came in. He had worn office-like clothes and a shoulder bag with a sticker which said “Emirates”. He walked right up to me without buying any food and began talking as I sat down.
