Two Thai boys called me on the phone. One of them was Chalerm, the other one his friend in the office. They giggled and chatted and wanted to know when I would come back to Thailand.
Chalerm was excited like a kid before Christmas. What would I bring him?
I had forgotten that I was supposed to bring a gift when I returned. Thais love gifts, and they love farewell and welcoming scenes too.
Chalerm always says he can’t come to the airport and meet me because he is working. But he usually shows up anyway, with flowers. It is nice of him.
Perfume is too boring, said Chalerm. How about a make-up kit?
I will see what they have at the airport.

SF, you will definitely have a great homecoming. Chalerm has really missed you. The love has been rekindled!!!! Good for both of you. Don’t wait until you get to the airport to find Chalerm’s make-up kit. Make a special trip to a Clinique shop and drop some serious quid (or bucks) on him. He’s worth it. Just think how far you have both come from that day in the park when you first arrived in Bkk.

Visa? I will try to enter Thailand without one, getting a 30 day visa extention stamp, hopefully. I will have my outbound ticket to Malaysia in hand.

The latest news is that to give you a 30 day stamp on arrival, Thai immigration might ask to see if you have an outbound ticket to leave Thailand when the 30 days are up. I have one for Malaysia in early July.

This is taking the concept of the short term hotel to an other level. But a short term nation? Seems like an odd concept. Must be the Thai way.
