Sometimes, when I feel Thailand is too sensible and sane, I look up news from Africa. This is always rewarding.
Now, for example, the incredibly shrinking d*ck epidemic is back in The Congo.
KINSHASA (Reuters) - Police in Congo have arrested 13 suspected sorcerers accused of using black magic to steal or shrink men’s penises after a wave of panic and attempted lynchings triggered by the alleged witchcraft.

“It’s real. Just yesterday here, there was a man who was a victim. We saw. What was left was tiny,” said 29-year-old Alain Kalala, who sells phone credits near a Kinshasa police station.
It seems the problem is rooted in extortion. A stranger comes up to you and says “Give me money or I will cast a spell on your willy”. Would YOU pay him? Of course you would. I would too. You heard the man. What will be left is tiny.

Thank you for this info. I have always wondered why so many guys who post online as having 8+ inches turn out to have less than 4. Perhaps these spells have been cast upon them. After all of these years of my thinking they were confusing metric and English measurements, there does appear to be a more scientific reason.

Hi, don’t take this as lightly as it seems, with our western view point it all seems a bit of farce but my ex boyfriend from Burundi would tell you very differently. He was 17 when he came over here and bore the scars from the witch doctors to protect him and after 8 years and a considerable amount of healthy western cynicism he has returned with all his beliefs intact.
On a different note, I’ve been reading your blog for the last 9 or 10 months and I’m hopefully taking in your advice but how close is the info you give for Thailand related to Cambodia? In November I’m going out to work there for 5 months and i can’t find any descent blogs that can give me the low down on gay life over there!

There’s no gay life in the Western sense. I saw no signs of anything approaching a gay bar in PHnom Pen last November, but I wasnt there for very long. The people generally are very poor, so you may find the occasional obliging young man and even the odd lady boy. Hotel staff are your best bet.

There is at least one gay bar in Siam Reap, and that would give me hope for a stay in Cambodia.
There are massage boys in Vietnam, and Laos would be “just like Thailand” without the obnoxious government.
So don’t worry. You’ll probably be faced with two entirely new problems (1) too many boys (2) dealing with whining farang. :-0

there are 3 gay bars in Phnom Penh, one great gay guesthouse and a gay sauna…. In Siem Reap, Lingas would be one of the nicest gay bars i have been to… plus Blue Chillis. Khemer are like rural thai guys, gentle, nice, friendly, unspoilt…without the street wise attitude of Bangkok…. and remember the K*** is gay too… (french ballet dancer with Prague boyfriend)
