Water and friends

gay-boy-diary.jpg

I am impressed by how much fuss the boys and girls at the 7-Eleven can make out of my monthly drinking water.

I go there to buy 48 litres of Nestle or Minere. That is six packs of six 1.5 litre bottles each, or 36 bottles. Inevitably this throws them into confusion. He wants water! Six packs? Six bottles? No, six packs! What brand? Do we have that? Better go and look. And look again. And ask again. And involve the maximum number of people.

I stand patiently in the shop while they run around talking about this. I pay and then it is time for delivery. They have a small cart for this purpose. They put the water on the cart (after much fuss about how to do it) and push the cart up the soi to The Mansion.

For reasons of internal hieracy the delivery job is always given to the newest member of the staff. This ensures that the staff who know where I live and how to do this delivery don’t do it. Every time is the first time.

Yesterday they could not deliver because it rained. Fair enough, it was raining heavily. They would come when the rain stopped, they said. I gave them my room number and phone.

The rain didn’t stop for many hours. When it finally was dry outside the staff at the 7-Eleven who had sold me the water had gone home and they were replaced by the next shift. The new shift knew nothing about my water.

Waiting till the same people were back in the shop the following day I discovered that they had of course misplaced my phone and room number.

But bravely a gay boy and a fat girl took the delivery job. The boy was too fem to touch the cart. The girl had to push it. They got lost and were taking the water up the stairs. I told them we had a lift.

The gay boy was new in the shop and he was surprisingly friendly. He acted as if he knew me. When he began to speak to me in English I had to search my mind for who he could be.

There was something familar about his face and how he smiled. I asked about his name. He was khun C., the boyfriend of my former neighbour, a gay farang who has since left Thailand. Khun C. used to be friends with Chalerm. I told Chalerm about the reappearance of his friend and he was excited about meeting khun C. again.

It is a small world.

I offered khun C. and the girl a 20 B tip each for their effort but they refused. I think 7-Eleven has a no tip policy.

OK here’s the $64 million question.
Why has Thailand so many gay boys?
There seems to be 1000 times more gay boys in LOS than Farangland!
When did I last have a gay delivery boy at my home here in Farangland? Ans: NEVER
When did I last meet a gay boy in my local Burger King - Ans: NEVER
How many gay boys frequent our local internet cafe? Ans: NONE
Yes I know there ARE gay boys in Farangland and I know where to find them, but in the local community? …very few.
Can anyone explain why there are so many in LOS?
This question is driving me mad!
(OK, for “mad read “jealous”! hehe)

You know that water that comes out of those machines all over Bangkok on the side of the road is safe. I tested the one close to me, KH is 0, that confirms the reverse osmosis (no heavy mettles) and is working and it’s also is ultra-violet treated which is essentially sterilized water (no microbial life). The ph is low, around 6.0 and as such has a flat taste but is very safe. Just heating water to 100C for 20 min. will render water microbial life-less as well but does noting for lead and mercury.

4B gets you 5000L from those machines.

    whoops, that 5000ml or 5L

Lol! How entertaining. I’m sorry. The best bit is the part about the fat girl having to push the cart ‘cos the gay boy was too fem to do it. Heh.

It is easier now that I have learned the Thai vocabulary I need to buy the water. When I spoke to them in English the confusion was total, and they would run out and get some Thai woman from the street (probably an x-bargirl) to translate.

I suspect that, if you looked around, you could find some service company which would deliver you the water without a hassle, and probably cheaper than the 7-11. They would also deliver Cokes, beers, and what have you. Have Chalerm look into it! :-)
