When I returned to Bangkok after the Malaysian jungle expedition my boyfriend was less than welcoming.
I had not expected Chalerm to be at the airport, and he was not, but he wasn’t even home. He said by text message he would be home at 10pm. When he arrived at 1am I was in bed. Chalerm didn’t come in to say hello, and when I went out to look he was at the computer. He was grumpy.
- Could you at least say “welcome back?, I asked.
- I boring say because you go Malaysia many time, said Chalerm.
Sullen boyfriend alert. No hug, no smile. No speaking either.
I had bought a gift for him in Kuala Lumpur. It was a two thousand baht bottle of perfume. Chalerm did smile for half a second when he received it, and he did say “khap khun khaa”. But this was the extent of our socialising.
He was no better the next morning. I asked him if he was sick, or if he had a problem, but he said no.
I was tired after the trip. I had hoped for a little tender loving care, but Thai boys are unpredictable. I don’t know why he was in this mood. Does he want to punish me for going on a trip without him?
If I had known he would be like this I would have stayed with the Bugis.

By the grace of Thai Immigration I can now stay in the kingdom until the beginning of November. If they then accept my application for another 30 days for the modest fee of 1900 baht I can remain here till early December.
After a total of 90 days I can either go to Penang again for another round, or I can go in and out of the country every 30 days three times and do Penang again after that.
Thai Immigration keep me hopping around like this to remind me of the Buddhist principle that all things are impermanent.

Last month I was bored in Bangkok. Now I have had enough adventures for a while. Some of what I saw in Sabah was good, some was ugly, but there was never a dull moment. I need time to digest it.

News just in. The ladyboy-in-training has had his first haircut in six months. He is back to male, or as close to male as someone like him can become. The blond streaks are gone, but he has more dangling stuff in his ears. He is cute.

I now have 539 unread comments from “readers” (ie spam bots) in my filter. I am not going to read them. When they get 15 days old the system will delete them automatically. If a comment containing your wit and wisdom is in the spam filter by a mistake it will then be lost for civilisation. Don’t blame me. Blame the spammers.

Maturity is a very slow process for Thai boys. Sometimes death from old age comes first.

Maybe he was in that mood, because he really is tired of you going abroad and reporting about flirty advetures. Maybe he just wants to read about the novel.

Mmm… I may be out of step here, but I feel kinda troubled.
I worry about your relationship with Chalerm.
OK, I AM a born worrier and it’s not really my place to worry about other’s relationships, but…
It sounds like you need to sit down and TALK or your relationship will soon be history.
Sounds like you both have issues with each other going away (him at school, you on visa runs) and you are both feeling neglected.
I don’t know if either of you can talk openly and calmly about this or not but the signs are not good.
I suspect it is you Silom, being the more mature one, who would have to take the lead and keep discussions under control.
Please try and talk. It would be a shame to lose each other.
