I don’t go to Internet cafes as often as I used to. My new uber-Mac has spoilt me. What can compare with 24 inches of luxury?
But I go to the Straight No Conspiracy Internet Cafe sometimes. The ladyboy-in-training still has a gap year. I suspect next year will be gap too. The ladyboy-in-training has a small teddy bear which he holds up to my face while making funny sounds and moving the arms of the doll up and down. The bear has a hat and a scarf. I don’t know what the deeper meaning of this is. Maybe there isn’t any.
Ever more Internet cafes open in the area. The family who owns the one I go to have decided to compete by adding noise. First they bought a small dog. It barks constantly. Or yelps, since it is a puppy. Secondly they bought a huge flat screen TV to put on the wall above the computers. Now we get to see UK football if we twist our heads and in any case we get to hear it.
The Gay Conspiracy Internet Cafe is suffering from the added competition. When I walked by there were hardly any customers. Even the Brother’s sugarboys were missing.

Chalerm wants to make Christmas merit by giving food to 99 poor older people at a shelter here in Bangkok. I don’t know what this is supposed to cost but something tells me I will get to hear about it. Chalerm said the shelter had a waiting list of people who wanted to give food.
Chalerm’s friend khun B has dumped his boyfriend from America and now has an Australian instead. Khun B is going to Sydney to visit his bf and Chalerm is envious. Chalerm really wants to go places and see the world.
I tell him I could not afford such globetrotting when I was a student. How about getting a degree, finding a job and making some money first? Chalerm tells me it is so long since I was young that my experience doesn’t count.
Khun B’s Australian boyfriend is in his late 20ies. He is one of these annoying young farangs who fly in to Bangkok, go to DJ and act as if they own the place. When I was his age I was in the closet, tormented and lonely.
Young gay people nowadays have it too easy. Gay boys hardly reach puberty before they come out. They find soul mates on the Internet and they spend their youth getting laid and having boyfriends as if this was the normal thing to do. Where is the suffering? Where is the despair? How can they do without the character-forming torture and self-loating in the closet?

This is the peak of the tourist high season in Bangkok. I can’t help wondering where all the tourists are. According to Thai authorities (who would never brag or twist statistics, would they?) the Thai tourist industry is growing every year. Record numbers of foreigners flock to the kingdom, yet somehow they are invisible. The explanation, of course, is that Thailand now has quality tourists. They don’t hang around Silom after dark but get up early for temple tours.

There are still young gay ppl that falls into your “era” - perhaps you just dont know them.
They value and understand life more than the ’spoilt’ ones.
BTW, is K’B cute?

Chalerm tells me it is so long since I was young that my experience doesn’t count.
How shameless! What a boor! I hope you gave him the answer he deserved! (But I have no idea what this could be).

Buddhist merit for Christmas ? That’s an interesting concept.
If Chalerm delivers the food but you end up paying for it, who gets the merit ? An abbot’s opinion should be sought.

“Young gay people nowadays have it too easy……”
Your observations are quite brilliant I agree about the “character-forming torture and self-loathing” , I identify with much of what you say. I think my Thai Boyfriend is a clone of Chalerm in his habits /actions/ speech.. You even have the Thai peculiarities of terminology absolutely spot on. A brilliant Blog which I look forward to reading every day…. Keep up the good work in 2050! XXXX (and XXXXXXXXXX**! for Chalerm!!) Devlin.
