Boo!
I was at Government House last night and the Thais who were there to pray by Chulalongkorn’s statue had a dozen policemen to watch them, plus a truck full of armed soldiers. That’s a bit much to keep petty crime under control.
Despite having total power the junta in Thailand is nervous. They fear that former Prime Minister Thaksin, last spotted in China, will try to sneak back into the country via the north. Once there he might call upon his ten million strong peasant army and march on Bangkok.
If this sounds far-fetched at least it is an excuse to keep martial law.
